Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Comfort Release® sensitive skin bandages.
About the Product
What is Comfort Release®?
Comfort Release® is a line of patented adhesive bandages designed for sensitive, fragile, and aging skin. Unlike standard bandages, Comfort Release® provides hospital-grade adhesion while allowing completely painless removal using rubbing alcohol. The technology was invented by physician Dr. Howard Rosing and is backed by research from Cornell University.
How does painless removal work?
Comfort Release® uses a patented OGS (Oligomeric Switch) adhesive technology. The adhesive contains a biodegradable resin that dissolves when exposed to isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). Simply swipe an alcohol prep pad over the bandage for 3-10 seconds, and the adhesive bond releases completely. The bandage lifts off with zero pain, zero skin pulling, and zero tissue trauma.
What sizes do Comfort Release® bandages come in?
Comfort Release® is available in three sizes: 2″x4″ large bandages (for larger wounds and post-surgical sites), 1″x3″ standard bandages (for everyday cuts and scrapes), and 1″ circular bandages (for blood draw sites, IV sites, injections, and small wounds). All sizes are available in individual packs and professional bulk boxes of 100.
Are Comfort Release® bandages latex-free?
Yes. All Comfort Release® bandages are 100% latex-free and hypoallergenic. They are safe for individuals with latex allergies and sensitivities.
Are the bandages sterile?
Yes. Every Comfort Release® bandage is individually wrapped and sterile. The packaging maintains sterility until opened, meeting clinical standards for wound care.
Are Comfort Release® bandages waterproof?
Comfort Release® bandages are water-resistant, meaning they will withstand hand washing, bathing, and light swimming. For extended water exposure (prolonged swimming, hot tubs), we recommend applying a fresh bandage afterward. The adhesive maintains its bond even when wet.
Usage & Application
How do I apply a Comfort Release® bandage?
Clean the wound area and pat dry. Peel open the sterile wrapper, remove the bandage, and position the absorbent pad over the wound. Press firmly on the adhesive edges (not the pad) for a secure seal. The bandage adheres immediately and strengthens over the first few minutes of wear.
How long can I wear a Comfort Release® bandage?
Comfort Release® bandages are rated for up to 7 days of continuous wear. However, for optimal wound healing, we recommend changing the bandage every 2-3 days or whenever it becomes soiled, wet, or if the wound requires inspection. The hospital-grade adhesive ensures it won’t fall off prematurely during the wear period.
Can I reposition the bandage after applying it?
Yes! One of the unique features of Comfort Release® bandages is that they are repositionable. If you don’t get the placement right the first time, you can gently lift and reposition the bandage without losing adhesive strength. This is especially helpful for wound care on hard-to-reach areas.
What type of alcohol do I need for removal?
Standard 70% isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) works perfectly. You can use alcohol prep pads (included with select Comfort Release® packs), alcohol wipes, or a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol. Hand sanitizer with 60%+ alcohol content can also work in a pinch. Do NOT use hydrogen peroxide or water — only alcohol activates the release mechanism.
Will the alcohol sting the wound?
The alcohol is applied to the outer surface of the bandage, not directly on the wound. The bandage material acts as a barrier between the alcohol and the wound site. In most cases, patients experience no stinging. If the wound is open or raw, a small amount of alcohol may seep through, causing brief mild stinging, but this is far less discomfort than the skin tearing caused by removing a standard bandage.
Sensitive Skin & Medical Conditions
Are these bandages safe for elderly skin?
Absolutely. Comfort Release® was specifically designed for fragile, aging skin. As we age, skin loses collagen and becomes thinner, more fragile, and more susceptible to tearing from standard adhesive removal. Our patented alcohol-release technology eliminates all mechanical force during removal, making these bandages the safest option for elderly skin care. In clinical studies, 94% of adult participants (including elderly) reported satisfaction with pain-free removal.
Can I use these if I’m on blood thinners?
Yes — Comfort Release® bandages are ideal for patients on anticoagulants including warfarin (Coumadin), apixaban (Eliquis), rivaroxaban (Xarelto), dabigatran (Pradaxa), clopidogrel (Plavix), and aspirin therapy. Blood thinners make skin more susceptible to bruising and tearing from standard adhesive removal. Our patented technology eliminates all mechanical force during removal, preventing bruising and skin tears.
Are Comfort Release® bandages safe for children?
Yes! In clinical studies, 94% of children experienced no pain during Comfort Release® bandage removal, and 94% of parents said they would repurchase. Many parents report that their children actually enjoy the removal process because the “alcohol magic trick” makes the bandage slide off painlessly. Comfort Release® bandages are hypoallergenic, latex-free, and safe for children of all ages.
Can chemotherapy patients use these bandages?
Yes. Chemotherapy can cause skin to become extremely thin, fragile, and sensitive. Standard adhesive removal often causes skin tears, bruising, and significant pain for cancer patients. Comfort Release® bandages provide the wound protection patients need without the trauma of traditional removal. Many oncology caregivers recommend Comfort Release® for their patients.
Are these safe for people with eczema or dermatitis?
Yes. Comfort Release® bandages are hypoallergenic and use a medical-grade acrylic adhesive that is less likely to trigger skin reactions compared to standard adhesives. The painless removal also means no additional irritation or inflammation to already-sensitive skin. Many eczema and dermatitis sufferers report that Comfort Release® is the only bandage brand they can tolerate.
What is MARSI and how does Comfort Release® prevent it?
MARSI stands for Medical Adhesive-Related Skin Injuries. It refers to any skin damage caused by the removal of medical adhesives, including skin tears, tension blisters, irritant contact dermatitis, and skin stripping. MARSI affects an estimated 1.5 million patients annually in the United States. Comfort Release® prevents MARSI by eliminating mechanical force during removal — the alcohol-activated release means zero pulling or peeling on the skin surface. Technology & Science
Is this technology patented?
Yes. Comfort Release® technology is protected by U.S. Patent No. 10,329,458. The patented OGS (Oligomeric Switch) adhesive system was invented by Dr. Howard Rosing and developed with scientific guidance from Dr. Yadong Wang of Cornell University. Additional patents are pending for next-generation applications.
How is Comfort Release® different from silicone bandages?
Silicone bandages use a different approach — they rely on gentle silicone adhesive that provides lower tack. While silicone bandages are easier to remove than standard bandages, they often have significantly weaker adhesion and tend to fall off during daily activities. Comfort Release® provides hospital-grade adhesion (comparable to or stronger than standard bandages) while achieving truly painless removal through its alcohol-activated release mechanism. In clinical studies, Comfort Release® achieved 86-96% satisfaction vs. just 6-26% for silicone alternatives. Read our full comparison guide.
What clinical studies support Comfort Release®?
Comfort Release® has been validated in comprehensive clinical studies involving over 200 participants across multiple demographics including adults, children, elderly patients, and individuals with various skin conditions. Results showed 94% satisfaction with pain-free removal across all groups. Comparative studies demonstrated that Comfort Release® improved satisfaction to 86-96% from just 6-26% achieved by competing sensitive skin products.
